5 ways to have fun with your family in Utah County this week

By Stacy Johnson daily Herald - | Oct 8, 2018

Utah County is a great place for family fun, with events across the valley for all ages.

Here are five fun events that are perfect for the whole family this week:

Be a pumpkin princess

In its 11th year, the Pumpkin Princess Pageant features girls ages 2 to 10 who compete to receive a special princess pageant. Girls dress in their favorite princess costume — often a pumpkin-themed princess costume.

When: Noon, Saturday

Where: Cornbelly’s; 3003 N. Thanksgiving Way, Lehi

Take a trip to the farm

Head south to Payson for the annual Country Farm Fest — a family-oriented fall festival that has non-scary fun for all ages. There are costume contests, coloring contests, Find the Boot and a Chocolate Milk Chug contest. There also will be crafts, hayrides, a straw maze, a petting zoo and free demonstrations.

You can also visit the farm’s pumpkin patch or Farm Fresh Market to pick up fresh local produce.

When: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18-20

Where: A Country Farm; 4058 W. 9600 South, Payson

Head to a parade and have doughnuts

Summer is usually the prime time for parades, but in October, there is a fun parade that is great for the whole family — the BYU Homecoming Parade. The parade starts at the Marriott Center east parking lot, follows 900 East and then travels west on 800 North, finishing at the Smith Fieldhouse.

If you get there early, you can also grab blue doughnuts and hot chocolate at the Maeser stairs on campus, at the Creamery on Ninth, at the Sinclair Station on the southeast corner of campus, at the Botany Pond or the BYU track.

When: Saturday; Doughnuts at 9 a.m., Parade at 10 a.m.

Where: BYU Campus

See some really giant pumpkins

Hee Haw Farms will host its annual Giant Pumpkin Weigh In Saturday, where local residents will bring the biggest pumpkins they have grown this year. The weigh in will start at 11 a.m.

When: 11 a.m., Saturday

Where: Hee Haw Farms; 95 S. 2000 West, Pleasant Grove

Have some fall fun

Head to Springville for some fall fun for the whole family at Jaker’s Jack-o-Lanterns. The pumpkin patch has several fun activities including hay rides, a big corn pile, straw mazes, slides, their Corn Maize, a Boo Zoo, straw pyramid and a haunted cave.

When: 9 a.m. to dusk; through Oct. 31

Where: 1988 W. Center St., Springville

Starting at $4.32/week.
