The full Utah Valley calendar of events is on L4, but here are three local events you should check out this week:

1. Yo-Yo Ma, BYU Music Building

BYU Music Building, Provo, Feb. 24, 7:30 p.m.

Some entertainers are so accomplished that they don’t need any introduction, but it doesn’t hurt to understand the background. For this event, the university website says: “Grammy-winning cellist Yo-Yo Ma performs in a special gala celebrating BYU’s sesquicentennial and the College of Fine Arts and Communications’ centennial. With a discography of more than 120 albums that range from iconic renditions of the Western classical canon to recordings that defy categorization, Ma is a renowned performer and the recipient of numerous awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Birgit Nilsson Prize. His multifaceted career is a testament to his belief in culture’s power to generate trust and understanding. Whether performing new or familiar works for cello, bringing communities together to explore culture’s role in society, or engaging unexpected musical forms, Ma strives to foster connections that stimulate the imagination and reinforce our humanity.”

2. KPop Laser Hunters Show

Christa McAuliffe Space Center, Pleasant Grove, Feb. 21-March 28, 7:30 p.m.

KPop Demon Hunters proved to be a sensation in recent years and that makes the music a great background for a laser show. The center website says: “Experience an immersive laser light show set to music in our planetarium. KPOP Demon Hunters are here to reinforce our local Honmoon with songs like Golden, Takedown, and How it’s Done.”

3. Eagle Mountain Community Theater Presents The Little Mermaid

Sage Canyon Middle School, Eagle Mountain, Feb. 21-23, 7 p.m.

Many communities in Utah Valley have their own theater organizations, giving local actors a chance to shine on stage. One of the first shows in 2026 is taking place out in Eagle Mountain, with four performances of The Little Mermaid. The company’s website says, “EMCT is thrilled to present our production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. You don’t want to miss this family favorite! Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including ‘Under the Sea,’ ‘Kiss the Girl’ and ‘Part of Your World.'”
