Utah Valley Living: 3 events to check out this week (Jan. 3-11)
- The Utah Valley Symphony performs.
- Each year during the holiday season, Thanksgiving Point somewhat transforms into a festive light display known as Luminaria. The light show is seeing some recognition as it is set to be featured on ABC’s “The Great Christmas Light Fight: Heavyweights.”
The full Utah Valley calendar of events is on L4, but here are three local events you should check out this week:
1. Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1 at The Noorda
Noorda Center for the Performing Arts, Orem, Jan. 8, 7:30 p.m.
It will be a night of beautiful classical music highlighting the best of the season. The event’s website says: “As January brings a frosty embrace, Tchaikovsky’s “Winter Dreams” Symphony delights with its exploration of the season’s enchanting beauty — and the 26-year-old composer’s budding talents. Written early in his career, this work hints at the iconic style that would go on to define Tchaikovsky’s masterpieces. Based on a short story, Rachmaninoff’s The Rock evokes the meaningful chance meeting of a lonely older man and a young woman on a stormy night. From there, we glide into Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23, where returning guest pianist Awadagin Pratt expertly showcases the piece’s emotional interplay by balancing lighthearted bliss with moments of deep introspection.”

Fleetwood Vision delivers the magic, energy, and sound of Fleetwood Mac. Join us for an unforgettable night of music featuring Fleetwood Visions. Every ticket, every donation, every cheer goes directly to help fund Marshall’s treatment for cancer. This is more than a concert — it’s a celebration of music and community!”

3. Luminaria
Thanksgiving Point, Lehi, Jan. 3-10, 4 p.m.

The website says: “Thanksgiving Point’s Ashton Gardens transforms into a glowing wonderland where every step sparks joy. Wander through 50 acres with 8 million lights, discover larger-than-life toys and ornaments, and experience the return of the dazzling Merry Mosaic. Marvel as snowmen come to life on the walls of the Enchanted Castle, then dance with your family at the Snow Glow Dance Party while the Fire & Ice show lights up the night with breathtaking flames and music. Warm up with cocoa and our famous donut holes, gather around firepits or in a private igloo, and find quiet inspiration in the radiant Tree of Life sculpture garden.
