Utah Valley Living: 3 events to check out this week (Jan. 17-25)

By Staff | Jan 17, 2026

The full Utah Valley calendar of events is on L4, but here are three local events you should check out this week:

1. Skijoring

Wasatch County Events Center, Heber, Jan. 17, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Head up Provo Canyon to check out a combination of winter sports and horsemanship at Skijoring Utah in Heber. The website says: “In the Heber Valley, Skijoring Utah is an action-packed competition where a horse and rider pull a skier through a fast-paced obstacle course that includes gates, jumps, and rings. Here, skijoring combines Utah’s ski heritage with our cowboy roots, creating a wild but spectacular event. Competitors race for cash and prizes. Spectators come from all over to cheer on the participants and experience something new. In other parts of the world, skijoring is a winter sport where a skier is pulled by a horse, dog, another animal, or even a motor vehicle. The name is derived from the Norwegian word skikjøring, meaning ‘ski driving.’ Here in Heber Valley, the sport features a horse and rider pulling a skier or even boarder.”

3. BYU’s Noteworthy

BYU West Campus, Provo, Jan. 17, 7 p.m.

Each year during the holiday season, Thanksgiving Point somewhat transforms into a festive light display known as Luminaria. The light show is seeing some recognition as it is set to be featured on ABC's "The Great Christmas Light Fight: Heavyweights."

It takes plenty of practice and confidence to excel when performing without any accompaniment, but BYU has some of the best. This week is a chance to check one of those groups out, which the university website describes by saying, “Noteworthy, BYU’s all-female a cappella group, delivers breathtaking performances filled with energy and inspiration.”

Starting at $4.32/week.
