The full Utah Valley calendar of events is on L4, but here are three local events you should check out this week:
1. Model Train Show
University Place, Orem, March 14, all day
Some estimate that model trains have existed in some form for nearly 250 years, so it’s not surprising that seeing those machine chug around those miniature tracks still gives us a thrill. To see some of the best models, head to University Place in Orem this week. The event website says: “Come experience the world of Model Trains at University Place’s Model Train Show. See the amazing artistry of these trains, cities, and landscapes. This will be a fun display for all ages, including the young at heart. This show is put on in conjunction with the Ophier Tintic & Wester Train Club”

2. Ice Breaker Triathlon 2026

American Fork Recreation & Fitness Center, March 21, 7 a.m.
Winter isn’t just about relaxing in front of a fire for many athletes, as evidenced by those anxious to get out and swim, bike and run in this spring triathlon in American Fork. The event website says: “The first event of the TriUtah Season, this is a one-of-a-kind sprint pool triathlon! A Utah tradition, the Ice Breaker is one you don’t want to miss! Stay after the race for pancake breakfast and pictures with the TriUtah’s Eddie the Yeti!”

3. A Weekend with Tony Foster
Sundance Resort, Provo, March 20-21, 7 p.m.
Learn more about art and nature with artist Tony Foster as the resort will have a number of events during the weekend. The resort website says, “Please join us in welcoming artist Tony Foster for a special weekend featuring a documentary screening, artist talk, and exhibition viewing. Tony Foster is a plein air artist who has worked in the World’s wildernesses, often traveling on foot or by canoe, to record his observations and experiences through his art. Foster’s watercolors on paper with written diary notes and symbolic objects or “souvenirs” highlight the beauty and fragility of nature and, the artist hopes, further the cause of environmental preservation.”
