SF Maceys contributes Christmas to County Jail inmates

By Daily Herald - | Jan 7, 2009

Bill Sommers, manager of Macey’s of Spanish Fork, donated 60 dozen oranges and 60 dozen candy canes to the Utah County Jail last Tuesday night. Also, The Wonder Bread Store of Spanish Fork gave 700 Hostess Pies at a considerable discount so the inmates could have a Merry Christmas.

Each year, the LDS Church, along with the Rock Canyon Church, have an evening with the inmates in the jail where they give out gifts to each inmate. On Tuesday evening, December 23, the LDS teachers and counselors in the 13th Correctional Branch, the Reverend Richard Green, jail chaplain, and Gina Brenders with friends from the Rock Canyon church, passed out the pie’s, oranges and candy canes. Besides providing candy canes with an appropriate message, Gina Brendes also brought her guitar and accompanied the others as they sang Christmas carols to the inmates. The inmates were so receptive of the gifts, as they were about the only presents that they would receive for Christmas. It was an exciting and spiritual evening for all involved.

Starting at $4.32/week.
