Trunk Show at Art Museum Quilt Show

By Staff | Jul 29, 2010

If you have ever wanted to meet expert quilters and learn what inspires them, now is your chance! The Quilt Trunk Show is a popular part of one of the most cherished displays at the Springville Museum of Art. A dozen gifted and creative quilters will personally display their favorite creations and explain what inspired them on Wednesday and Friday, Aug. 4 and 6, at the museum. The public is invited.

The Trunk Show will take place at the Museum on Wednesday, Aug 4, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Friday, Aug. 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The twelve presenters, six per day, will each take half an hour to showcase their work. The schedule is as follows:

Wednesday, Aug. 4: 5:30 p.m., Janet Carpenter; 6 p.m., Merlene Crapo; 6:30 p.m., Saundra Cindrich; 7 p.m., Penny Stephenson; 7:30 p.m., Liz Laney; and 8 p.m., Krisanne Watkins.

Friday, Aug. 6: 11 a.m., Sherry Boren; 11:30 a.m., Paula McKinlay; 12 p.m., Becky Lambert; 12:30 p.m., Sandra Starley; 1 p.m., Sue Swinyard; and 1:30 p.m., Judie Oler.

Each quilt is tailored by hand and presents an image of beauty, or even a story.

Visitors to the Trunk Show are also encouraged to walk through the Quilt Show, on display through Sept. 1st. Dr. Vern Swanson, SMA director, said this about the many quilts on display, “We are not just interested in the craft, such as how accurate the stitches are, and so forth; we are interested in the artistic vitality. We get a lot of quilts with good artistic expression, and people have come to expect it.”

Come and enjoy a unique art experience that will not soon be forgotten. Listen at the Trunk Show as the quilters talk of the great care, patience and love that they have stitched into each quilt.

Stroll through the Quilt Show to see more creations of beauty on display. Both shows are cosponsored by the Springville Museum of Art and the Utah Valley Quilt Guild.
