County chambers of commerce battle in laser tag
LEHI — Men and women in business suits left the world of commerce behind on Tuesday and became like little kids again at Jack and Jill’s in Lehi during the annual north Utah County chambers of commerce event.
“We love this event,” said Debby Lauret, American Fork Chamber of Commerce executive director. “We spend 12 minutes revisiting our childhood playing cops and robbers.”
The transition from white starched shirt and tie to a contemporary soldier fighting a futuristic battle started in the laser tag briefing room with about 15 people divided into two teams. After questions were answered and rules reviewed, the team members suited up in the armory and waited for the games to begin.
“It was fun, I’ve never done that before,” said Marie Robinson of Learning Elevated in Saratoga Springs. “Next time no white shirt.”
White made her an easy target in the two-story laser tag game room with its flashing lights and shadows. Those teams that commanded the top floor appeared to have the advantage as well.
The first teams to go into the laser tag room were business owners and city staff from Eagle Mountain. The winning team, the red team, was Eagle Mountain Mayor Heather Jackson’s team, but whether they won or lost, those playing looked happy and excited to be there.
Lehi Area Chamber Chairwoman Diane Bradshaw said when she suggested the event a little more than a year ago she wasn’t sure what the response would be. She’s since found she needn’t have worried.
“It was a big hit, they wanted to do it again,” Lehi Area Chamber treasurer Kelly Terry said.
The second battle was Lehi Area Chamber competing against American Fork and Pleasant Grove chambers.
“We rocked,” said Rodney Martin, World Class Auto Repair owner of American Fork.
“We were down one person and we still did well. We’ll have a rematch next year,” he said.
Lehi Area Chamber members took on American Fork and Pleasant Grove chambers members at Jack and Jill’s Bowling and Laser Tag Party Center and won 28,900:28,350.
“You’re going down next year,” Donna Milakovic, Lehi Area Chamber president, retorted with a smile.
Jennifer Wright of the Pleasant Grove Chamber of Commerce said the event helps business owners to get involved and be part of a larger area.
“We are just thrilled to be with the north Utah County group,” she said. “It’s just fun. There is a great group of people here.”
The event included a meal and bowling in addition to the laser tag and lasted beyond the scheduled 90 minutes.
“They have a blast when they are here,” said another Jennifer Wright, representing Jack and Jill’s, who co-sponsors the event. “They just love it.”
