National vote would support same-sex marriage
When the state of Utah became a part of the United States of America, I assume that it was because the majority of the voters in Utah wanted to become a part of the USA. Further they acceded to the conditions of superiority of federal laws over state laws.
I think that if a national vote were taken on having a law the specifies only one man and one woman can get married it would fail. It is not probable that a majority of Americans would give up personal freedom because a tiny group of Utahns want to do so.
It is true that the will of the people should hold sway over the laws of the land and that is true even if it includes the Constitution itself. But in America, that is only true when it is the will of all the people, not just those of one state or even several states.
