Provo School Bond is a community initiative
As a member of the Provo School Bond Facilities Advisory Committee, I have been very fortunate to be deeply involved in this school bond process for the last 18 months. I am not an employee nor am I an elected official of the Provo City School District. I am simply a concerned parent who was invited to be a part of the process.
The Provo Schools Reconstruction Bond is a community initiative, not just a proposal from the school board or district administration. It originated from community members in all areas of Provo. Provo residents are volunteering their time and resources to get this bond passed because it is so important to our community. The bond committee has held informational open houses at each of the schools in the district, gathering critical feedback and addressing concerns from community members in all of Provo’s neighborhoods.
Our district administration and school board are very hopeful and eager that this bond passes because they have the stewardship over these buildings. It is their charge to keep our schools safe and to provide the best learning environment for Provo’s kids. But, the true strength of this bond proposal is that it has the support and endorsement from so many community members and leaders, including our entire city council and mayor.
As an outside-insider, I can say this process has been fair, legal, thorough, transparent, non-political and truly in the best interest of the students in Provo. I urge voters to take some time to learn about the proposal and then join with many other Provo citizens to vote “YES” on the bond on November 4.
