Tire boots ruining visit to Provo
Students and alumni,
I have some bad news for you. If you are attending a ball game, a concert, commencement exercises, or any other event that you have spent money on gas, food and lodging so you could attend that special occasion, rest assured the boot gang will not be where you are. They will be putting those horrific gadgets on your front wheel causing tremendous damage to your car if you do not know it is there.
I attended the Houston game and parked where I have always parked for 35 years to watch a great game. There were at least 30 empty parking stalls at Riviera apartment complex at 6 p.m. No, I did not see any warnings. At 11:30 p.m., after the game, I made it back to my Toyota Avalon where there were still several empty parking stalls and saw something taped to my driver window but it was dark, and I thought it might just be an advertisement of some kind.
I got in my car, put it in reverse and started to back out when I heard this terrible noise coming from my front end. I got out, looked underneath my car, looked at both wheels and saw nothing; it was very dark. I then noticed tremendous damage to my left fender. What in the world caused this?
I finally found a number to call for the Parkway Authority! They did not care about damage to my vehicle. They did not care that I still had to drive three and a half hours to my home. They told me that I would have to pay them $60 to get the boot off and pay them $200 if my fender caused damage to their boot and that I could be arrested by the police if I did not pay them in cash. The police were called to help me get my front wheel off so the Boot Gang could get the boot off.
How fast can a great, memorable football game and memorial to the armed forces end in such an expensive, rude experience at my alma mater. The auto body shop’s bid to replace and repair my front fender was $1,478 plus the cost to rent another car while my car was being repaired. Thankfully, I have insurance but will be watching future events on ESPN.
I have some advice to share. Brigham Young University and the city of Provo needs to boot and banish Parkway Authority off and around campus and find another solution for parking where an affordable, practical solution exists — especially, for alumni who are not aware of those who are after MONEY! I have long been a Cougar fan but was not aware it would cost me so much.
