Real BYU fans would fill the stadium

Sep 26, 2014

For the last two games at BYU there have been thousands of empty seats in the stadium. I am appalled that we can’t even fill the stadium when the weather is good and we have a good team. If I was a four-star recruit and I got an offer from BYU with its partially empty stadium or an offer from a team that fills its arena I would not give BYU the time of day. I would go where my talents were appreciated.

At major schools (i.e. Notre Dame, Alabama, Nebraska, etc.) fans have to pay thousands of dollars to get on a waiting list to buy season tickets. Here at BYU that is not the case and our pathetic fan base can’t even fill the stadium. We are not a top tier school with the mediocre fan support we have.

It breaks my heart to say this, but if I were Bronco Mendenhall I would go somewhere else where I was appreciated when my contract was up. Also, any topnotch LDS athlete who would come to a partially filled stadium at BYU over a full one elsewhere is a fool. If someone is going to play football and sacrifice their body the way they have to, then they should be appreciated.

I am sick of excuses. I don’t care if it is 10 degrees below zero with 8 feet of snow on the bleachers playing the Little Sisters of the Poor at 9 p.m. on Monday night, the fans need to be in the seats — period. If they can’t do that then we don’t deserve a good football team and we won’t have one for long.

Coaches like LaVell and Bronco are very rare.
