For once, the crowd cheered for the mascots.

Mascots from sports teams around the country took the field at Skyridge High School in Lehi to compete in the 13th annual Mascot Bowl.

Though it was the first time Skyridge hosted the event, on its brand-new football field, fans of all ages came out to watch their favorite mascots take on the eighth-grade football teams from Skyridge and Lehi.

The Jazz Bear, the official mascot of the Utah Jazz, is responsible for gathering all the mascots for the annual football game.

“He goes to their places and does stuff and so they come and reciprocate,” said Becky White, the sports marketing teacher at Skyridge High.

“It’s a great tradition for Lehi and now it’s just been changed to another venue, but it’s still a Lehi community event,” White said.

Proceeds from the event go to the Firemen and Friends for Kids Foundation, which provides Christmas cheer for unprivileged kids in the Lehi area.

“You look around and it’s amazing how many people continue to support this year after year,” White said.
