Man arrested after assaulting firefighters extinguishing his Cedar Fort home
One man was arrested early Monday morning after assaulting firefighters who were trying to extinguish a fire that was destroying his Cedar Fort home.
According to Mike White, battalion chief for Unified Fire Authority, the agency was called in at about 11:50 p.m. Sunday to assist the Cedar Fort Fire Department on a one-story structure fire, which was fully involved by the time they arrived.
As Cedar Fort firefighters were doing their job and extinguishing the flames, the renter of the home arrived and “started to get physical with the firefighters,” White said.
“Apparenty, he was not happy with how they were responding,” White said. “So his solution was to shove them out of the way and hit a few of them.”
One of the renter’s neighbors got involved in the scuffle as well, though he was only detained, while the renter was arrested by Utah County Sheriff’s Office deputies on scene.
The identities of the two men are not yet available.
The fire took about 30 minutes to extinguish and the home has been deemed a total loss.
Investigators are still determining the cause of the fire. According to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, charges will likely be filed once the fire investigation is complete.
