Feedback on Facebook: Alpine School District proposes closing two Orem elementary schools
The Alpine School District is proposing closing two elementary schools in Orem as part of potential consolidation plans.
The district made the proposal public Wednesday afternoon in an infographic detailing the proposal. While schools on the district’s west side have seen booming growth, Orem schools have seen declining enrollment in recent years.
Taizha Sutton The class sizes at Bonneville are already large! The traffic for drop off and pick up is horrible. If they bring students from Geneva will they start bussing them and just add to the congestion? Keep our schools, maybe rezone and even out the numbers so they have full but manageable class sizes all around!
Ariana Duke We have 1,050 kids packed into our elementary school. I wish we could pick up those Orem schools and beam them north.
Ann Fenn Strasburg Parents, you can fight the district all you want but they will never change their minds about this proposal. You can even suggest saving plans and they will go with the most expensive. You are wasting you time.
Angela Aston Johnson My kids go to SP and Orem. I see more money for special programs come into the schools with more kids. As long as they add more teachers, I don’t think combining small schools is a bad thing, although I am biased in being grateful that SP kids aren’t now being bussed to Hillcrest. We live so close to SP!
Emmerin Schutz As sad as it is to see schools close, I prefer teaching in bigger schools. I feel like the money goes farther and I can do a better job for my kids. I really didn’t like teaching in a small school.
Stacy Ashauer Averett My kids attended Cherry Hill, which is a couple of blocks from Hillcrest. There were 34 kids in my daughter’s second grade class. 29 in kindergarten. They need more classrooms in the area, not fewer.
Craig Schroerlucke I would rather close these wasteful, redundant, and unnecessary multiple school districts in one county, and replace them with a countywide district. So much more money will go to the students, versus bloated bureaucracies.
Amy Wallen Jones What a load of crap!
The City of Orem needs to get out of the Alpine School District and be in it’s own district with Vineyard and Lindon. This was proposed before and I believe it should be considered seriously this time.
ASD wants Cascade ES students to go to school CLEAR ACROSS TOWN AT THE GENEVA ES BUILDING??!! OUTRAGEOUS! Why can’t trailers be set up at Cascade during their renovations instead? That’s what Cherry Hill ES did a few years ago.
Samantha Rankin Alpine school district has always sucked ass so this news isn’t surprising nor a shock to me, thank god my kids aren’t in alpine school district
Jason Christensen How does people feel about Alpine school district paying 50 million before interest for the Orem Mall’s renovation?
Betiana Nazarena Armelini Please all parents of Geneva come to the meeting the 17 whit the district and complaint about this decision thanks!!!!!
Jennifer Jensen Davis Under 400 kids at an elementary! How nice would that be?
