BlenderBottle celebrated the expansion of its Lehi headquarters with the grand opening of its second building.

The addition of the nearly 110,000-square-foot facility just south of the Lehi Main Street freeway exit came quicker than executives thought it would, but was needed to accommodate the company’s growing workforce.

“Our current 100,000-square-foot building, which opened in 2013, was intended to accommodate our needs for five years. With our rapid growth and expansion, we outgrew it within a year and a half,” said Kim Sorensen, BlenderBottle co-founder and COO.

Sorensen explained that, as large and wonderful this second building is, it’s just the next step on BlenderBottle’s growth path. Sorensen expects the company’s headquarters campus to expand with two more additional buildings only within the next five to 10 years.

The new building is a tribute to the company’s employees, she added. It features many elements to promote employee wellness, work/life balance and a fitness-focused lifestyle. In addition to workspaces, the building boasts a full indoor basketball/volleyball court, fitness center, yoga studio and golf simulator. In one corner, is a room called Kathmandu, or as Sorensen referred to it, “Catnapdu,” — a meditation, napping and relaxation room.

Kim and Steve Sorensen founded BlenderBottle in 2000. The husband-and-wife team only intended the company to be a home business, after Steve Sorensen invented the company’s patented BlenderBall whisk to get the lumps out of his on-the-go protein shakes. But as soon as other got winds of the product, it “started selling itself,” according to Kim Sorensen.

“There was so much demand from customers — there really was a need in the marketplace as everyone is becoming more health-conscious. It fits that niche,” Kim Sorensen said.

Originally only found on the shelves of the Orem Good Earth Natural Foods store, BlenderBottle is now distributed in more than 60,000 retail locations in over 90 countries. The new building increases the company’s warehouse and workspace to approximately 210,000 square feet, allowing for the team to more than double in size.
