Former teacher convicted of having sex with student arrested again on drug, child endangerment charges
An Orem woman previously convicted of having sex with a student was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of meth possession and child endangerment.
According to a press release from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, Sarah Lewis, 29, was arrested Wednesday when law enforcement made a home visit to her house, since she was on probation.
During the visit, 19 grams of methamphetamine were found, or about 190 individual doses. Law enforcement also found evidence that a child had been in the home and may have been exposed to drugs or drug paraphernalia.
She was booked into the Utah County Jail on a charge of possession of methampheamine with the intent to distribute, a second-degree felony; a charge of endangerment of a child, a third-degree felony; and a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor. Bail has not yet been set. Lewis was arrested on similar drug charges in July on suspicion of selling drugs out of her car.
Lewis had been sentenced in August 2017 to three years of probation and 195 days in jail for a third-degree felony of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
She taught dance and social studies at Landmark High School in Spanish Fork at the time, according to court documents.
Under the terms of her probation, Lewis must register on the sex offender registry, obtain a psychosexual evaluation and complete recommended treatment. Lewis is also prohibited from having contact with former students.
The probation conditions also state Lewis may not have any contact “with students of hers outside of school,” but Lewis is no longer employed with Nebo School District.
