Man arrested for reportedly raping child in Payson home
A man who reportedly sexually assaulted a young girl while she had a sleepover at his house was booked into the Utah County Jail on Friday.
Investigators arrested Mauricio Rodriguez-Velazquez, 42, for five first-degree felonies of rape of a child.
According to police reports, Rodriguez-Velazquez would sexually assault a 9-year-old girl when she came to have a sleepover with other girls at his house.
The assault would happen while the other girls were watching cartoons. The girl told Rodriguez-Velazquez to stop but he continued to assault her until she asked to go to the bathroom, the report stated.
The sexual assaults started in April 2015 and continued repeatedly for a year whenever she would sleep at the house, the girl told police officers.
In interviews with police, Rodriguez-Velazquez denied assaulting the girl. He said he always slept on the floor when the girl would sleep over at his house. He also told police he believed someone had convinced the girl to lie to investigators about the allegations.
Rodriguez-Velazquez is on a custody hold with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and is being held on a $125,000 bail.
