A nine-year-old boy has died after being hit by a vehicle while crossing a Pleasant Grove  intersection Tuesday afternoon.

The Pleasant Grove Police Department said the incident occurred around 4 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of 2600 North and 900 West, when the boy was allegedly hit in a crosswalk by a white pickup truck.

According to police, witnesses reported the truck was possibly being driven by an elderly man.

First aid was rendered to the boy, before he was taken to a hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Sgt. Derick Shumway told reporters the initial call came in as a hit-and-run and the driver reportedly fled the scene.

“But since then, we have identified a suspect, and we do have an active investigation going on right now,” Shumway said.

As of Tuesday evening, the suspected driver had not been taken into custody, but police were said to be speaking with him about what happened.

Neither the boy or the driver were identified Tuesday.
