Principal Tim Pead of Ridgeline Elementary School in Highland was trying to hold back tears of joy Friday morning when he received some exciting news.
Students, faculty, staff, and community members gathered for an assembly in the school’s auditorium where he was surprised with the news that he’d been named Utah Administrator of the Year, an honor selected by the Utah Association of Elementary School Principals.
The young voices of the students sang the school song during an honorary ceremony for Principal Pead before a video was played highlighting what makes him the perfect recipient for the award.
During his brief remarks, Pead expressed his gratitude for the award and to contributing staff, but emphasized that the award was a shared achievement with the entire school community.
“It’s really easy to read a list of accomplishments, but the reality is — the ideas, the creativity, the follow-through — is all of you, and so I’m sharing this with each one of you, teachers and staff members,” Pead said.
But he noted the true superstars of Ridgeline are the students.
“You’re what makes Ridgeline great,” Pead said. “We can try to put all these programs together but it’s your ability to come to school everyday – and (to) be resilient and keep pushing through.”
Pead has been the principal at Ridgeline for seven years, according to the Alpine School District.
Colleagues praised his passion, dedication, and ability to bring people together.
“Tim is dedicated to student learning and to being a lifelong learner himself,” said Brady Rowley, Alpine School District Elementary Schools Supervisor in a press release. “Day after day, he listens and learns to identify and incorporate the best practices that produce successful student learning.”
Ridgeline assistant principal Theresa Hill commented by commending Pead for his infectious enthusiasm and creating an exciting learning environment for students.
“Students feel seen and love to interact with him whether it is in the halls, on the playground or in the classroom,” Hill said. “His approachable and inclusive leadership makes Ridgeline feel like home and our whole community feel like a family.”
Principal Pead will travel to Washington, D.C. in October along with the other winners from across Utah, and will be considered for national administrator of the year.
