An employee at a Springville elementary school was arrested Monday on suspicion of 10 counts of sexual exploitation after police say they found more than 2,000 images of child sexual abuse material in his possession.

Mark Steven Rosewaren, 61, of Payson, is being held without bail at the Utah County Jail and is no longer an employee at the school, the Nebo School District confirmed.

Police said Rosewaren was a life coach at an elementary school, where he had one-on-one time with young children. Nebo School District spokesman Seth Sorensen confirmed Rosewaren was a school technician at Westside Elementary school before he was let go.

In a statement to the Daily Herald, Sorensen said the district received notification from law enforcement of the arrest on Monday, and that authorities assured them no students from Westside were involved in the matter.

Sorensen said safety and security of students is the district’s top priority, and that Nebo is “committed to maintaining a safe learning environment.”

“We want to reassure our community that we are cooperating fully with law enforcement throughout this process,” he said. “Should parents have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to reach out directly to the school or district administration.”

The affidavit said an officer was conducting an online investigation when he located an IP address distributing files of child sexual abuse material, and through a court order captured the location in Payson.

After identifying Rosewaren, police said they made contact with him at school and executed a residential search warrant at his Payson address.

According to police, Rosewaren admitted to downloading child sexual abuse material on his desktop, and that he had been viewing the material for approximately 20 years.

Starting at $4.32/week.
