Drivers traveling at night near the border of Lehi and Saratoga Springs will need to prepare for some complex traffic patterns over the next few weeks.
Beginning Feb. 20, the intersection at Redwood Road and 2100 North in Lehi will close nightly for up to three weeks as construction crews work to set beams for the future bridge over Redwood Road, the Utah Department of Transportation warned in a social media post Thursday.
This is just one of many freeway segments to be constructed amid the Mountain View Corridor project in Utah County.
Eventually, the bridge will connect 2100 North with Mountain View Corridor over Redwood Road.
Drivers in the area will encounter the closures between the hours of 9:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. during the week. The closure impacts will extend until 7 a.m. on Saturdays and 9 a.m. on Sundays.
During these hours, UDOT said Redwood Road will be completely closed for traffic through the intersection. Drivers will not be able to make a left turn on either side of the intersection in any direction; only right turns will be permitted.
“We understand what a vital road Redwood Road is as a route for people, and we’re trying to accommodate people as best we can,” Wyatt Woolley, a spokesperson for UDOT Region 3, told the Daily Herald. “But when we put girders in place building a bridge, we obviously can’t have traffic going underneath it.”
Transportation officials noted that drivers should expect lane closures, shifting lane patterns and evening delays ahead of the nightly intersection closures while crews prepare the work zone.
Woolley encourages drivers to seek alternate routes if possible during the closures, though several detour routes will be in place to help drivers navigate the area as crews work each night.
“It’ll be happening at night, so hopefully it won’t be too impactful for people. But please use the detours and plan your route,” he said.
