The Utah County Attorney’s Office tacked on more charges against Dr. David Broadbent of Provo for alleged sexual abuse of former patients.

Prosecutors announced Wednesday in 4th District Court two counts of felony rape charges against Broadbent, 77, stemming from a January 2020 incident in which a patient alleges the physician assaulted her during an exam.

According to court documents, the woman said she asked Broadbent to use a smaller object during a pap smear test because she’d been abused as a child. However, she told prosecutors that he reportedly was “rough” while using a speculum and ignored her cries of un comfort. “She was crying and hitting the walls telling the defendant to stop, no, no, no and please no more,” court documents allege.

Broadbent then allegedly used his hand to sexually abuse her, despite her pleas for him to stop, documents further claim.

The newest charges add to others involving women who have accused Broadbent of medical misconduct while in his care.

The Provo gynecologist first was criminally charged last June with one count of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony, for alleged sexual misconduct against a patient in 2020.

More than a dozen charges were announced by the court against Broadbent last month involving three separate cases of allegedly unwanted exams and claims of abuse spanning multiple hospitals, with some of the allegations dating back to the 1970s, ABC4 reported.

Broadbent began facing scrutiny in 2022 after after a lawsuit was filed by four women accusing Broadbent of sexual abuse and battery at various points in time. Nearly 100 women joined that lawsuit, but it was dismissed later that year.

The Utah Supreme Court reinstated that case last August.

Broadbent voluntarily surrendered his medical license in 2022 and is not practicing as a physician.

He is set to appear in court for a pretrial hearing in the most recent filing on March 17.
