A surveillance camera is posted at the 4th Judicial District Courthouse on Monday, May 18, 2020, in Provo.

A Provo man charged with threat of terrorism, a second degree felony, after allegedly threatening to blow up The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Missionary Training Center.

The charges were filed against Anthony Hambleton Beardall, 49, in Provo’s 4th District Court on Tuesday.

Beardall has a history of making phone calls threatening terrorism, according to court documents.

In the latest alleged incident, police said Beardall called the BYU Information Center on April 24, 2024, and told the operator, “You better shut down the (Missionary Training Center) or we’re going to blow your (explicit) out of the water, baby. Do you understand?”

Police said Beardall called the information line at least 10 times that day with similar messages that the MTC needed to be shut down, using profane and offensive language in each call.

Beardall was also charged by the court with four counts of threat of terrorism in March.

On May 5, 2024, Provo police said Beardall told the department he was angry about prior arrests and was going to “send a message” and destroy law enforcement buildings.

On May 14, 2024, police said Beardall called during a ceremony for fallen officers and threatened to drop a nuclear bomb on the department.

Provo police searched the area for the bomb due to the phone call, court documents said.

Beardall was accused of making additional threats via phone calls throughout the year.
