Jenna Sharp, the 14-year-old girl who was struck by a vehicle near the Lehi Rodeo Grounds late last month, has died in the hospital, her parents announced Saturday.

Sharp was leaving a multistake youth dance being held at the venue May 30 when police said she was hit by a car traveling south on 500 West at 100 North as she was crossing the street.

Sharp was left with a serious brain injury as a result of the crash. She was taken to Primary Children’s Hospital where she was placed in the intensive care unit.

Just over a week after the incident, her father took to social media stating that her condition had not improved and that their family made the decision to take her off of life support.

“Jenna suffered severe trauma to her brain stem and has shown no signs of consciousness since the incident. With you, we hoped and prayed that a miracle might pull her through, but ultimately were faced with the impossibly difficult decision to withdraw life support and allow her to pass naturally,” Chris Sharp wrote in a Facebook post Saturday evening.

Jenna passed away earlier that afternoon, he added.

Since the crash, the Sharp family says they have been shown compassion and unwavering support from neighbors, community members and people who knew Jenna.

On June 2, more than 100 people gathered for a candlelight vigil at Willowcreek Middle School to honor Sharp and to rally around her family.

“Your thoughtful prayers and acts of selfless kindness have truly helped sustain us through the most difficult time of our lives,” Chris Sharp wrote. “Jenna loved feeling loved and this community delivered in spades.”

The Sharp family said that although Jenna will be dearly missed, her spirit will live on, as they donated her most vital organs to potentially save the lives of six people and improve the lives of many others.

“We believe that this is what Jenna would have wanted,” Chris Sharp wrote.

As of Monday, the Lehi Police Department said no charges have been filed against the driver of the car that struck Jenna.

The Sharp family has tentatively set Jenna’s funeral plans for Saturday.
