An overview of UDOT’s major Utah County construction projects in 2025

A construction sign sits upon an Interstate 15 overpass on 4800 South on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, in Springville. As part of its efforts to meet the transportation needs of an ever-expanding Utah County, the Utah Department of Transportation has announced that 2025 will be another busy year, with construction projects beginning and ongoing around the valley.
UDOT’s Region 3 recently released information on 29 major projects for the year. Seventeen of these are in the county, including seven that are considered “top projects.”
Construction is underway on three of those projects: the Mountain View Corridor, State Street between Pleasant Grove and American Fork, and the Springville/Spanish Fork interchange for Interstate 15.
Four projects are slated to begin later this year at Pioneer Crossing, Geneva Road, University Avenue in Provo and U.S. Highway 6 up Spanish Fork Canyon.
UDOT Region 3 Senior Communications Manager Wyatt Woolley said the top projects were identified by length, cost and impact on the community.
“The big projects are going to be somewhat impactful to the traveling public and to the municipalities,” he said.
The majority of the current and upcoming projects aim to reduce road congestion and improve traffic flow. A recent county survey identified both of these issues as concerns among residents.
“Utah County, as many know, is one of the fastest-growing counties in all of Utah,” Woolley said. “Because of (the growth), we as a transportation department are trying to stay ahead of it, so we’re looking at the needs.”
Mountain View Corridor
With a price tag of $466.1 million, the Mountain View Corridor project is UDOT’s most expensive in Utah County this year.
As previously reported by the Daily Herald, UDOT is looking to add four miles of freeway to the Mountain View Corridor, connecting 2100 North in Lehi to Porter Rockwell Boulevard in Herriman.
Construction began early in 2024 and is slated to be completed in 2026. When finished, it will be an alternative freeway to I-15 when traveling between Utah and Salt Lake counties.
Pioneer Crossing
Additional efforts to improve traffic flow in the north part of the county come at Pioneer Crossing, where the average daily traffic of 52,000 to 58,000 exceeds the road’s designed average daily traffic of 35,000, according to UDOT.
Construction to create a flex-lane system similar to one in Taylorsville is scheduled to start in the fall. UDOT will remove the road’s shoulders to add two lanes, bring the road up to seven lanes, including an adjustable turn lane.
The middle lane will switch its direction of traffic during peak travel times. The project is receiving $77.3 million in state funding.
Pleasant Grove to American Fork State Street improvements
UDOT’s plan to widen State Street to three lanes in each direction from 200 South in Pleasant Grove to 500 East in American Fork remains in the early stages of construction.
Phase 1 of the project began in the spring of 2024 and will be completed in 2025. It includes improvements at 500 East in American Fork and the Pleasant Grove Boulevard and 200 South areas.
The road-widening portion of the project begins in Phase 2, which has an unscheduled start date. Previous state and federal money accounts for $21.7 million of the project, while UDOT TIF, or tax increment financing, will pay for $13.5 million of it.
Geneva Road
Construction to widen Geneva Road between University Parkway and 1450 South in Orem is expected to begin this spring, according to UDOT.
Projected to be finished by 2026, the road will have two travel lanes in each direction, a center turn lane, bike lanes, a 10-foot-wide shared-use path east of the road and a sidewalk west of the road.
Construction will cost $34.5 million and is funded by the Mountainland Association of Governments, tax increment financing, local funds and House Bill 433.
University Avenue Bridge
The viaduct on University Avenue that crosses over the train tracks on 600 South in Provo needs to be replaced, UDOT determined after recent inspections.
Work on a new bridge will begin this summer using $69.9 million in federal funds and $1.2 million in local contributions. Construction will continue through 2027.
When completed, the bridge will include two lanes in each direction, a 3-foot median, an 8-foot sidewalk on each side and a 6-foot buffered bike lane in each direction, according to UDOT.
Springville/Spanish Fork I-15 Interchange
Phase 1 of a $133 million freeway interchange project in Springville and Spanish Fork is nearing completion and will immediately lead into Phase 2.
The project involves constructing a new I-15 interchange at 1600 South/27000 North and widening the road to two lanes in each direction between Main Street in Spanish Fork and the Tintic Railroad Line in Springville, UDOT said.
Phase 2 will be completed by the end of 2026.
U.S. 6, Chicken Hollow to Tie Fork
Construction to U.S. 6 in Spanish Fork Canyon is currently in the concept, design and environmental study phase. It is estimated to begin in October and run into 2026.
Between Chicken Hollow and Tie Fork, the road will be widened from two to four lanes with a center median, UDOT said.
The project will also flatten roadway curves between mileposts 195 and 197 and is designed to improve sight lines.
Other Utah County projects
UDOT identified 10 additional major projects taking place in the county in 2025.
In American Fork, 100 East is receiving a $1.85 million deep curb replacement, and a $1.9 million project is sealing North County Boulevard with micro surface.
In Saratoga Springs, construction will begin on two separate segments of the Utah Lake Shoreline Trail, and a $3.38 million state-funded undercrossing will be inserted near Harbor Point Elementary.
A new traffic signal will be placed at state Route 73 and Eagle Mountain Boulevard; and in Orem and Lindon, 1600 North will be widened in a $70 million project.
The final mile connecting Lindon Heritage Trail to Utah Lake Shoreline Trail will be completed in Vineyard this year, and, in a UDOT partnership with Vineyard City, construction on a $11.9 million overpass across the new Vineyard Connector roadway extension begins.
In the southern end of the county, improvements will be made to the State Street and 12000 South intersection in Payson, and a median concrete barrier will be placed in Spanish Fork Canyon between Diamond Fork and U.S. 89 in a $9 million project.
