Lehi police responded to the area of 500 West and 100 North around 11:15 p.m. on reports of an auto-pedestrian accident following a youth dance that was being held at the rodeo grounds, the department announced in a press release issued Saturday morning.
According to spokesperson Jeanteil Livingston, as youth were leaving the event, the teen was crossing the street when she was reportedly hit by a vehicle traveling south on 500 West.
Witnesses on the scene and responding officers rendered aid until emergency services arrived. She was initially taken to a nearby hospital but then flown by medical helicopter to a different hospital in Salt Lake City for treatment, the release stated.
“The juvenile suffered significant head trauma, the current status of the juvenile is unknown at this time,” Livingston said in the release.
During a briefing with reporters Saturday afternoon, David Colqui, patrol supervisor with the Lehi Police Department, said it appeared that the girl was not in a crosswalk when the accident occurred.
Authorities said the driver of the vehicle stayed on the scene and is cooperating with police, and as of Saturday no charges have been made.
Lehi police said their investigation into the accident is ongoing.
