The Provo River Bridge at 820 North is shown Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

Reconstruction of the Provo River Bridge in Provo began Monday, closing 820 North at the bridge to traffic until the project is completed next summer.

According to Provo City, a new, 83-foot-wide bridge will be built, and improvements will be made to the roadway’s curb, gutter, trail drainage and water utilities.

As a detour, the city is asking people to use Independence Avenue, 500 North and 500 West.

The project will also close the Provo River Parkway Trail between 800 N and 900 North. Pedestrians and cyclists using the trail are asked to leave the trail at 800 N and 850 West to the south and 800 W and 900 North to the north, using 700 North and 800 West as a detour.

Construction is expected to take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Starting at $4.32/week.
