According to the U.S. Forest Service’s Spanish Fork Ranger District, most gates are slated to close by Nov. 30 — depending on snowfall — with the exception of the lower gates on the south end Nebo Loop, which will close Dec. 15. 

The Utah County Sheriff’s Office is asking people planning back country trips to reach out to the Forest Service to make sure the roads they want to use are still open. For areas where gates are closed, the sheriff’s office asks that people not park in front of the gates. 

“The roads are closed, but we still need to keep the gates accessible, so that in case of emergency, we can access past those gates as law enforcement and first responders,” Utah County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. Raymond Ormond said. 

People are allowed to hike, bike and backpack beyond the closed gates, Ormond said, but they should be prepared for emergency responders to take extra time to reach them in case of an emergency. 

“They should have appropriate gear and equipment with them to kind of bridge that gap until help can arrive,” Ormond said.

• Hobble Creek Canyon Right Fork at Balsam Campground
• Kyhv Peak Road from Provo Canyon
• Long Hollow Road
• Maple Lake Road
• Monks Hollow Road
• Nebo Loop at Devil’s Kitchen
• Nebo Loop at Upper Grotto Trailhead
• Pole Canyon Road
• Santaquin Canyon Road at Trumbolt Picnic Area
• Sheeps Creek Road at Unicorn Ridge
• Teat Mountain Road

Upper Utah County 

• Alpine Loop
• Timpooneke Road
