BYU's Kennard Davis Jr. rebounds the ball in a men's college basketball game against Holy Cross at the Marriott Center on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025.

BYU basketball player Kennard Davis Jr., 20, was in possession of marijuana when he was arrested for driving under the influence last week, according to police.

In a redacted Provo Police officer report obtained by the Daily Herald, an officer said he responded to assist with a traffic accident on Nov. 13 when he suspected Davis, who was one of the drivers, was impaired, and that Davis was arrested for DUI.

Davis was cited for the DUI and possession of marijuana. He also performed a standard field sobriety tests, drug recognition evaluation and blood-urine test, according to the report.

Access to the full police report was denied due to pending charges with the Provo City Attorney’s Office, according to police.

A Provo police news release said the crash occurred at 900 West and Center Street around 11:45 a.m. last Thursday. Davis was cited with DUI charges, and was later released and treated for minor injuries. His vehicle was impounded.

Davis is a transfer from Southern Illinois. He started the first two games of the season for the Cougars and was averaging nine points per game.

Davis traveled to Boston last week with the team for a matchup against UConn but did not dress for the game. BYU head coach Kevin Young told reporters he was held out for a violation of team rules.

Starting at $4.32/week.
