Man, 72, struck and killed by vehicle in Provo

A Provo police car is parked on Center Street on Saturday, June 25, 2022.A man was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing State Street on his mobility scooter Sunday afternoon in Provo.
According to police, Maries Johnybear, 72, was crossing the road near 1980 North just after 1 p.m. when the accident occurred. He was transported to Utah Valley Hospital where he died from his injuries.
Police said the man was not utilizing an intersection or crosswalk while crossing the road.
The vehicle’s driver is cooperating with investigators, police said.
