Progress is being made to contain a wildfire that ignited in Hobble Creek Canyon last week.

The U.S. Forest Service reported Monday morning that the Cherry Hill Fire was reduced to 540 acres over the weekend and has reached 63% containment.

Utah County Emergency Management has lifted all evacuation levels, and the Northern Utah Type 3 Team will transition command of the fire back into local control at 7 p.m. Monday, according to the report.

The fire started Thursday in the Right Hand Fork of Hobble Creek, forcing evacuations to campsites in the area.

It grew as large as 651 acres, according to the Forest Service, and had 132 personnel assigned to combat it.

Weekend rain “significantly aided” firefighters’ efforts, and firefighters have reached containment on the west and south portions of the fire, the Forest Service added, though there is still active heat around the fire edge.

“(Monday), crews will continue to patrol the fire and address any hot spots. … The focus areas are the north and east perimeter where there is not yet containment,” the Forest Service said.

Fire managers will open the Right Hand Fork when it is safe to do so, the report added. The fire’s cause remains under investigation.

Starting at $4.32/week.
