A 23-year-old Utah County native died after being struck by debris during a storm while attending the Redwest Music Festival in Salt Lake City on Saturday.

Ava Ahlander, 23, lived in Seattle but was originally from American Fork, according to reports. Her uncle, Bobby Ahlander, confirmed her death Monday and said she had flown in to see a Post Malone concert with her friends when the “tragic accident” occurred.

“This was absolutely devastating news and I am grief stricken,” he said on Facebook. “Ava was an absolute delight of a human being. Everyone loved her. She had the best smile.”

A GoFundMe was set up in support of Ahlander, with proceeds going to expenses related to a memorial celebration of life, burial costs, medical bills and counseling services for people affected by the loss, according to the family. As of Tuesday afternoon, more than $24,000 had been raised, exceeding a goal of $15,000.

Remaining funds will be donated to a charity in Ava’s name, her family said.

“Ava was a beautiful soul whose kindness, warmth, and adventurous spirit touched everyone around her,” the family said in the GoFundMe. “Even in her passing, Ava continues to give the gift of life to others as an organ donor — a final act of generosity that truly reflects her caring nature and desire to help those in need.

“Thank you for your kindness and support during this difficult time as we honor and remember Ava’s beautiful life.”

Starting at $4.32/week.
