A Provo Police Department patrol car is pictured Tuesday, June 9, 2025.

A child was killed in an auto-pedestrian accident Tuesday afternoon, according to Provo police.

A news release said two children playing outside at 860 W Columbia Lane in Provo were struck by a driver, and family members drove the children to Utah Valley Hospital.

A 3-year-old died from the injuries sustained, while a 4-year-old was treated for minor injuries and is considered stable, Provo police spokesperson Jana-Lee Holland said.

Initial information indicates the driver did not see the children playing in the area, police said, and the driver remained on scene and cooperated with responding officers.

Holland said there is nothing to suggest impairment but said the traffic accident team will continue an investigation.

“Our heartfelt condolences are with the family,” Holland said.
