A truck that police say ran off the road and killed a pedestrian is pictured Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2025, in Springville.

A man was killed by an alleged drunk driver Wednesday night after “heroically” pushing his wife out of the way and taking the total impact of the truck, police said.

The couple was walking on the sidewalk near 40 E and 400 South in Springville around 6:30 p.m. when a truck pulling a trailer went off the road and struck the man, according to Springville police.

Live-saving efforts were taken by officers until medical units arrived and transported the man to Utah Valley Hospital, but he died from his injuries, police said.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to those involved, especially this young man’s wife,” Springville police said.

The alleged driver, Travis McIntyre, 41, of Tooele, was arrested on suspicion of 10 charges, including automobile homicide and driving under the influence, and booked into the Utah County Jail.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, police observed alcoholic beverages inside the vehicle, and McIntyre was unable to stand and perform standardized field sobriety tests.

A witness told police that McIntyre was blocking the crosswalk at an intersection with his black Chevrolet Silverado prior to the incident. Additionally, according to the witness, he was looking down and did not appear to be aware of his surroundings.

When the light turned green, the witness said the truck stayed stationary for “some time” before going through the intersection, then swerved from lane to lane unintentionally.

The witness observed the same truck at the scene of the accident, court documents said.
