Spanish Fork's police department is pictured Tuesday, June 13, 2017, in Spanish Fork.

The Spanish Fork Police Department is looking into what led to a stabbing incident that injured a 17-year-old student.

According to a Spanish Fork city press release Sunday morning, officers were called out to Maple Mountain High School on reports of an alleged stabbing at around 9:20 p.m. on Saturday night.

It was reported that during the school’s Homecoming Dance an altercation took place in a parking lot east of the school between several juveniles,” said Lt. Cory Slaymaker of the Spanish Fork Police Department in the release.

Officers and first responders arrived to find a 17-year-old male student had allegedly been stabbed in the leg by another juvenile, according to the release.

Police said the injured teen was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  A 16-year-old, who police suspect did the stabbing, reportedly fled the scene but was located a short time later and taken into custody, the release said.

The 16-year-old is being held at the Canyon Detention Center on suspicion of aggravated assault, police said.

The incident is under investigation.
