At 9:30 a.m., a man in his mid 30s was paragliding near Mt. Mahogany and crashed near the north end of Mount Timpanogos, suffering a broken leg and other minor injuries, Utah County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Raymond Ormond said.

Utah County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue responded to the incident and worked to rescue the paraglider, according to Ormond. A Utah Department of Public Safety officer helicopter hoisted the man off the mountain and transferred him to a waiting ambulance, Ormond said.

Paragliding is a popular activity in Utah Valley, with the Point of the Mountain flight park being one of the premier locations due to its consistent winds.

Paragliders can often be seen in other parts of the valley as well, but it comes with risks.

The Daily Herald has reported on more than a dozen paragliding accidents in the last 15 years, including at least two deaths. Paragliders have also been implicated in doing dangerous things and risking collisions, including two cases of being charged for chasing owls back in 2013 and 2014.
