Thousands of people are expected to attend the open house for the Lindon Utah Temple next month, and the city is making preparations to meet the demand.

Lindon City announced Wednesday a traffic circulation plan for the area surrounding the temple during the open house, which runs from March 12 to April 11, Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., excluding April 4.

Arrivals from the north during nonschool drop-off and pick-up times are asked to reach the temple by turning left onto Center Street from State Street and driving directly east to the parking entrance. Visitors from the south are requested to turn right from State Street onto 200 South, then left onto 100 East and right onto Center Street to reach the parking lot.

During school drop-off times from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. and pick-up times from 2 to 3:45 p.m., an alternative route is suggested for visitors entering from the north by turning left from State Street onto 400 North, then left onto 400 East and left onto Center Street.

“We know traffic and parking congestion during the open house will be significant at times,” the city said. “We ask for your help in reducing traffic on Center Street during school drop-off and pick-up times by encouraging walking or biking, and avoiding Center Street if possible during the open house.”

The city is also designating no temple parking zones on streets surrounding the temple for the duration of the open house, including Center Street between Canal Drive and 900 East, and two residential streets north of Center Street: 800 East and 850 East.

The open house will be staffed by volunteers who will direct parking, pedestrian crossings and the flow of traffic, according to the city.

“We thank our residents and school patrons in advance for their patience and understanding during this significant event,” Lindon City said.

Starting at $4.32/week.
