A man and woman suspected of robbing a Lehi store and running over the store owner who attempted to confront them were arrested Tuesday night.

Gavin Huss, 22, of Provo, and Riley Shelman, 21, of Heber City, face charges of retail theft and failure to remain at an accident scene involving serious injury.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Huss and Shelman entered Mad Man’s Hobby Store in Lehi on Friday and stole an electronic radio-controlled car worth $800.

Police said they exited the store and got in a black Dodge Ram 1500 when a storeowner attempted to confront them. As they began to leave, the storeowner was pulled into the truck’s rear tire well as the tires rotated, causing him to get sucked into the wheel well and ran over by the truck, the affidavit said.

“The store owner suffered two broken femurs, a broken tibia and fibia in his right leg, a broken right arm near his shoulder, a broken nose, two broken eye sockets and various lacerations to the forehead,” the affidavit said.

According to police, Huss and Shelman left the scene and did not attempt to help the storeowner or contact medical services.

On Monday, police said an anonymous caller identified the duo from a surveillance video. Following an investigation, Shelman was arrested between Park City and Heber City and the vehicle was seized. Huss later turned himself into Provo police.

“We are grateful for information received from members of the public during the investigation,” Lehi police said in a news release. “We are also extremely proud of the hard work that our dedicated Property Crime Detectives put into this case, ultimately locating the female and the truck in the Park City area and then coordinating with other agencies to safely make the arrest.”

Lehi police confirmed the victim’s injuries were significant and said he is recovering.

“We are pleased that the victim in this incident was not injured any worse than he was,” police said. “His injuries are very significant and we are thankful that he is recovering.

According to GoFundMe, the man injured in the accident is Mark Willson. Shellie Vincent, who identified herself as Willson’s daughter, said on the page that Wilson will need multiple surgeries, procedures and several months of healing, and she requested donations to support his recovery.
