A private health care clinic that considers itself an alternative to the traditional health care model is opening its doors in Orem on Monday, with a goal of servicing the Spanish and English-speaking community alike.

Vamos Health, a local start-up that first opened in West Valley City in 2024 and has also grown to Ogden and Phoenix, pitches a system where patients can avoid high premiums or deductibles by getting care through a subscriber-based model.

The Orem location is at 230 N. State Street.

“Bottom line is, healthcare is expensive,” said Vamos Health spokesman Marvin Gudiel. “So at Vamos Health we’re trying to cover that gap in the healthcare system, where people have access to see the doctor without being worried about the cost they still have to pay.”

For $85 a month for adults and $50 for children — not including family discounts — patients are allotted unlimited visits to see a provider, Gudiel said.

The clinic provides primary and urgent care, as well as services for family planning, women’s health, diabetes, migraines and occupational health, among others.

“In addition to that, our providers do have access to a network of specialists through Rubicon,” Gudiel said. “It’s a program where they can do doctor-to-doctor consultations with specialists. The goal of doing that is to reduce unnecessary referrals.

“Our goal is we don’t send people out of Vamos Health unless it’s really and truly necessary. So we work with our patients as much as we can.”

Another distinguishing feature of the clinic is its service to the Spanish-speaking population. According to Gudiel, all of the providers in the clinic speak English and Spanish, reducing any language barriers that may otherwise impact a doctor visit.

“With the healthcare system, there’s always translators but it’s never the same experience, especially when you’re taking about medical terminology,” he said. “It never really translates the same when you’re explaining how you’re feeling or the symptoms. What we want to make sure is that there are no barriers.”

The for-profit entity has big ambitious to grow beyond Utah and Arizona, and offer its unique health care model to more people.

Gudiel said the business follows simple formula of growing memberships and retaining patients. Between the Ogden and West Valley City locations, he said the the clinic is growing by 350 memberships per month statewide.

That growth is believed to reflect the need of community members who would otherwise pay too much for health insurance or avoid getting insurance all together.

“There are a lot of people that will love to take care of themselves, but just their situation doesn’t help financially. … And there are people that need help,” Gudiel said. “There are people that are suffering, going weeks being sick or stressed because they haven’t been able to take care of their glucose or like sugar levels, or blood pressure — the things that can lead to very, very serious consequences.”

Starting at $4.32/week.
