Who’s running for Utah County Commission’s two open seats in 2026

A Utah County Commission meeting occurs Wednesday, July 16, 2025, in Provo.There will be two open seats on the Utah County Commission this year after Commissioners Amelia Powers Gardner and Brandon Gordon chose not to file for reelection.
Seeking to fill those seats and take office in 2027 are a bevy of candidates, many of whom recently served as elected officials on the municipal level.
Former Provo Mayor and Republican Michelle Kaufusi is one of 10 individuals running for Seat A, but is the only one running via the signature-gathering and convention processes.
The other nine candidates will run through the convention process. They include seven Republicans: Brent V. Bowles of Springville, Christopher Forbush of Saratoga Springs, Taylor Fox of Orem, Larry Evans of Salem, Richard Neal Smith of Spanish Fork, Nate Hepler, and Renee Tribe.
Independent American Jacob Oaks and Democrat Jeanne Marie Bowen of Provo are also trying for Seat A.
Ten candidates will also race for Seat B via convention, including former Eagle Mountain Mayor Tom Westmoreland, Utah County Auditor and former Highland Mayor Rod Mann, and former Orem City Councilman David Spencer, all Republicans.
Two Republican candidates will also run via signature gathering, including former Provo Deputy Mayor Isaac Paxman and William Brimley.
J. Allen, a Democrat, and Forward Party member David Hinkley of Orem are also running, along with Republicans Brian Voeks, Carolina Herrin, and Truman Van Cott.
