Saratoga Springs police are searching for a person of interest in a homicide case after a woman was found dead in an RV.

After searching for a married couple missing since Thursday, Saratoga Springs police announced Tuesday they located the body of  Jeusselem Elieth Genes Vitola, 43, in an RV belonging to her husband, Alvaro Jose Urbina Rojas, 57, at a storage lot in Draper.

Rojas is a person of interest. Police believe he fled Utah and has been in southern California.

The couple had been married for 19 years and came to the United States from Venezuela legally 10 years ago, Saratoga Springs Police Chief Andrew Burton said in a news conference Tuesday afternoon. Burton said the couple was last seen when Rojas left to take Vitola to work Thursday around 10:15 a.m.

He said the family is cooperating with the investigation, and that the incident came as a surprise to the family.

“We have a situation where the family saying, ‘Well, this is totally a surprise to us,'” Burton said. “It’s very uncharacteristic of them. They’re not suicidal, they’re not criminals, they’re not here illegally. They didn’t have any rationale for why this happened. They don’t have any history of domestic violence. They’ve had arguments over the years, but they never had anything physical in nature.”

Burton said that the family told police there had been some talks recently of getting a divorce, but they are unsure what happened prior to the missing persons report.

Burton said there is not an exact cause of death yet, and did not comment on what condition the body was in.

According to police, there is no suspicion that Rojas is in danger, and the family is not aware of any history of threats that would “indicate that should be a possibility.”

Rojas, also known as Jose Alvaro, is 5-feet 9-inches tall, 193 pounds and has brown hair. Police say he is believed to be driving a 2005 Gray Toyota Sequoia with a Utah Arches style license plate number T409YB.

Anyone with information regarding Rojas or his vehicle is asked to contact their local police department or Detective Llorens at the Saratoga Springs Police Department at (801) 766-6503 or (801) 798-5600.

“We are working the case in coordination with the Draper Police Department, the FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Border Patrol,” police said.

Starting at $4.32/week.
