Alvaro Rojas, a person of interest in a Saratoga Springs police homicide case, is pictured.

Charges were filed in Provo’s 4th District Court Monday against a Saratoga Springs man suspected of murdering his wife and fleeing the state.

The Utah County Sheriff’s Office charged Alvaro Jose Urbina Rojas with murder, a first-degree felony, after his wife, Jeusselem Elieth Genes Vitola, was found dead in an RV in Draper last week.

Rojas has not been located by detectives to date and has made no communication with family members, according to court documents.

An indictment said Saratoga Springs police were notified on Feb. 27 that Rojas and Vitola, a married couple, were missing. In speaking with family members, detectives learned the couple owned a trailer in Draper and obtained a warrant to search the vehicle, police said.

Inside the trailer, officers found Vitola’s body and a cell phone believed to belong to Rojas, and a medical examiner deemed the death a homicide, court documents said.

Throughout the investigation, police said family members told them Rojas and Vitola had experienced financial hardships in recent years and that Vitola had informed Rojas she wanted a divorce. Authorities also said they learned Rojas had become jealous of Vitola and was tracking her whereabouts.

The investigation found video footage of the couple’s movements on Feb. 26, including them traveling in their vehicle close to the lot where the RV was stored, court documents said.

“At 11:00 AM, surveillance footage shows the Sequoia pulling into a gas station in Draper; the gas station is approximately 2.6 miles from the location of the trailer. In the footage, only one individual can be seen in the vehicle. Shortly after the vehicle enters the gas station, Alvaro can be seen exiting the driver’s seat and pumping gas. Finally, at 2:56 PM, Alvaro can be seen on surveillance footage at a gas station in St. George, approximately 280 miles from Draper. Jeusselem is only seen in the earliest recording, where she is seen in the passenger seat leaving the neighborhood at 10:11 AM,” the court documents said.

Police said they received information showing Rojas made several purchases in Southern California on Feb. 26 and Feb. 27.

Starting at $4.32/week.
