This undated photo shows the 4th District Courthouse in Provo.A jury found a Santaquin nurse accused of killing a woman by insulin overdose guilty of manslaughter on Tuesday.
Meggan Sundwall, 33, was arrested last year and accused of administering insulin to Kacee Terry, 37, of Highland, on Aug. 12, 2024, despite her being nondiabetic. Terry was found unconscious by her uncle, and she died on Aug. 15, 2024, according to charging documents.
The jury’s decision came following a nine-day trial at Provo’s 4th District Court. Sundwall was also found not guilty of aggravated murder and guilty of obstruction of justice. She will be sentenced May 4.
According to charging documents, Sundwall believed she was the beneficiary of a life insurance policy worth more than $1 million. Terry’s sister, Kylee Clark, told the Daily Herald last year that no policy existed. Charging documents also said a partially used bottle of insulin, syringe, cup and cap were found by Terry’s uncle hidden in an empty cardboard soda container in the trash outside Terry’s apartment.
According to KSL.com, Sundwall’s defense attorney questioned during the trial why prosecutors did not consider suicide a possibility.
The Utah County attorney argued that Sundwall was in control of the situation, KSL.com reported.
