OREM – Utah Valley University, the Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Utah Leadership Council will host the 2nd Annual Growth & Prosperity Summit on Oct. 27 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the Sorensen Student Center on UVU’s Orem Campus.

The all-day event — which is open to the public — will feature leaders and stakeholders from business, government, education, and nonprofit organizations discussing critical aspects of economic growth and prosperity in Utah Valley.

Forty thought leaders, including Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox, UVU President Astrid S. Tuminez, legislators, Utah County mayors, business and education leaders, and policymakers will discuss population growth, transportation, education, air quality, infrastructure, workforce development, healthcare, the future of Utah Lake, business, major economic shifts of the past 12 months, water usage and drought, natural resources and economic uncertainty.

“There are opportunities ahead of us as a valley that include explosive growth, decreasing housing stock, and water usage,” said Curtis Blair, president and CEO of the UVCC. “While we look at these challenges as growth problems, we also look at them as opportunities. We need to lean on the best minds and the best people that we know, who have been through this experience or have spent their careers researching how we can make this valley the best place to work, learn, and play.”

A key purpose of the summit is to form a coalition that will continue to identify ways to create inclusive growth and prosperity opportunities for those living and doing business in Utah Valley. A signing of the Utah Growth and Prosperity Compact will take place at the end of the summit.

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox, left, and former Gov. Gary Herbert, right, take part in the Utah Valley Growth and Prosperity Summit at Utah Valley University on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021.

“I have lived in Utah Valley my entire life,” said former Utah Governor and UVCC Executive Chair Gary R. Herbert. “The growth and prosperity my family and I have enjoyed in this valley is unprecedented. This summit brings leaders and the public together to discuss what we need to do to keep Utah Valley, and ultimately the entire state, growing for many years.”

Summit organizers hope to create an open-minded, cohesive dialog for sharing ideas and strategies for managing the valley’s future. It will bring together the community, Utah leadership, and the business sector to examine the issues that Utah communities face.

“The summit was created in response to a multiyear effort called Valley Visioning, through which thousands of residents, elected officials, community leaders, and other experts discussed and prioritized their goals for Utah Valley,” Blair said.

Additional speakers and presenters will include former Utah Gov. Gary R. Herbert. The keynote speaker will be U.S. Rep. Burgess Owens, R-Utah.

“I would suggest that anybody that has anything to do with business in the state of Utah should be at this conference,” said Utah State Rep. Cory Maloy, R-Lehi.

To register, go to http://uvsummit.com. Virtual admission or student admission is $25; nonprofit access is $35 and general admission is $50. Breakfast and lunch are included for those who participate in person. Business casual dress is encouraged for those in attendance.
