Estate Guru is a company built on the desire to help people better prepare for their futures. We are preparing our estate throughout the course of our lives. While one might consider only the big house on a private plot of land as an estate, the truth is that throughout our lives we are acquiring many things to be passed on to our next generation as our estate.

What is to become of the things you own when you’re no longer here? Your home, your personal belongings, the things you own digitally — you interact with your estate regularly, though you may not have even realized it. Estate Guru was created to help people organize their estates and properly prepare it for the next generation.

The original idea for the company came about years ago, but it found itself outdated with new technologies. Jonathan Warenne, son of two of the original founders, was offered the opportunity in 2020 to help the company out of its slump and make needed updates to the company model.

Jonathan shared the importance of taking risks “for, with and on people.” Before becoming the CEO in 2020, he lived in New York and experienced the hustle of climbing the ladder. He worked hard to get there, but shared that he gained valued relationships with the people he works with now because of the risks that they took together to make Estate Guru what it is.

In rebranding, Jonathan created an advisory board to help him through the process. He named one of the members, Jeffery Palmer, as his moral compass through ups and downs. When questions or roadblocks came he relied on his advisory board and his network in New York, as well as people he met during his time at BYU.

As a digital estate planning company, Estate Guru helps “take care of all the documentation you need to complete your estate planning online.” Financial planners and CPAs use Estate Guru to easily assist their clients with planning, and then they have attorneys who review the documents.

“Simple. Intelligent. Effective.” That’s the goal of Estate Guru. “It’s far more intelligent than just online documents that you’ll find on Legal Zoom or Rocket Lawyer, where you’re filling it out yourself. No, you want the attorney there. You want your attorney reviewing it. You want them in the code. You want your financial advisor, your tax advisor, all looped in to have the same goal for you in one place.”

The business model is founded on empowering users. Someone may not know what kind of documents they might need in order to ensure their estate is taken care of — Estate Guru is there to mend the gap. By its understanding of varying regulations, Estate Guru enables its users to receive all the proper documentation within a fail-safe platform.

One of the most rewarding parts of the job is the interaction they have with the family of their clients. When those people are suffering loss and are unsure of what the next steps are, Estate Guru is there, ready to provide what their loved ones have already organized.

With emotion, Jonathan shared the thing he values the most: his team. Founding a start-up company is difficult, and having a solid team that are dedicated to delivering the product is imperative. The Startup Building provides a space for Estate Guru to thrive. Taking up the full basement, they are grateful for a reliable place to do their work.

Jonathan praised the relationship that he has with the people at the Startup Building and its affordable cost to rent while they focus on growing their company.
