Utahns are known for helping each other during times of need. The state is consistently one of the highest in the country for volunteering, coming in first in 2021, with 40% of Utahns engaging in formal volunteer work. When it comes to helping out friends and neighbors, more than 60 percent of Utahns lent a helping hand in informal volunteer in 2021.
Utahns are always eager for opportunities to serve, and we are excited to announce a new initiative for volunteers: the Food and More Corps. Community Action Services and Food Bank is partnering with AmeriCorps to give people the opportunity to serve in their community while building their own skills. Here’s what you should know about the Food and More Corps and how it can help you and your community.
Give Back to the Community
The Food and More Corps funded through AmeriCorps (in partnership with CASFB) designed to help people around Utah with financial literacy and food insecurity. More than 100,000 people in Utah currently experience food insecurity. In other words, they do not have the ability to regularly obtain quality food needed for a healthy lifestyle.
The Food and More Corps will send service members to food pantries in Summit, Wasatch, and Utah counties to assist in building self-reliance among patrons. The Corps will help connect people who need help with those who are looking for ways to serve and give back to their community.
Develop Professional Skills
The Food and More Corps can help build self-reliance among the communities it serves, both for food bank patrons and Corps members. The Corps allows service members to build their own professional skills while giving back, providing them with personal and professional development courses and highly valued certificates.

After working with the Food and More Corps, service members will leave with sought-after skills and experience that will help them as they work to further their own careers. Working with the Food and More Corps will also provide important networking opportunities while building lasting personal and professional relationships.
Receive Benefits
Financial literacy and self-reliance are two of Community Action Services and Food Bank’s core values. The Food and More Corps will help further these principles within the community and service members alike. While serving with the Food and More Corps, service members will receive important benefits, including scholarships and a living stipend. A weekly 40-pound food box will also be provided to help offset household food costs.
The Food and More Corps is an amazing initiative that will allow people of all backgrounds to give their time and talents to make a positive impact and strengthen their communities. If you want to serve your community and make a positive impact in the world while becoming a better
you, this is your space. If you want to volunteer, apply today to be part of the Food and More Corps. We celebrate the resilience and resourcefulness of you, our national and community members. We are inspired by your noble desires and efforts to serve and help your neighbor. Consider this your official invitation to come and serve with us.
