Events at the American Fork Library — Here are some upcoming events at the American Fork Library: Nov. 10: Flashback Friday After Hours Movie Night at 7 p.m. The Cary Grant comedy “Father Goose” will be shown. Nov. 14: Beginner Yoga at 7:30 p.m. Please bring your own mat. Nov. 15: Barbara Christiansen Historical Collection Dedication at 6:30 p.m. An open house to celebrate the memory and contributions of the late public servant. Nov. 16: Tween Club at 4 p.m. Join the library for an afternoon of pizza-tasting madness. Register online. Nov. 16: Paint Night for adults at 6:30 p.m. Paint a gnome picture with instructor Lori Olsen. Register online. Nov. 16: “Hunger Games” party for teens at 6:30 p.m. Teenagers are invited to join the library for a fun time with “Hunger Games” themed games, treats and prizes. Pick up a ticket at the upstairs Information Desk. Nov. 18: Gen Z Generosity Service Club at 11 a.m. Make Christmas cards to send to military personnel. Nov. 18: Writing Conference at noon. Learn more about the craft of writing and interact with other authors. There will also be an author meet-and-greet and a Q&A panel. Nov. 20: Little Art Explorers for children 3-5 at 1 p.m. An open-ended art class where children can explore, discover and create with different art materials and techniques. Register online. Nov. 20: Family Movie Night at 6:30 p.m. The Disney/Pixar film “Elemental” will be shown. Nov. 22: Library closing at 5 p.m. Nov. 23-26: Library closed.
Basic drawing techniques class — Children ages 8 to 18 can learn about basic drawing techniques with Jeff Bushman from 4 to 5 p.m. on Thursdays at the TAF Creative Arts Center, 53 W. Main St. Students may start at anytime. The cost is either $10 per class per student or $40 per month, including supplies. Paint pouring class — Artists of any level can learn the secrets of the “perfect pour” so they can enjoy the addictive, meditative and relaxing art of paint pouring. Upcoming classes will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16. The classes at the TAF Creative Art Center, 53 W. Center St., are geared for ages 12 and up. Storytime — The American Fork Library is offering storytimes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Toddler Tales will be at 10 a.m., followed by Preschool Pals at 11 a.m. Preschool Pals will also be offered as a Zoom Storytime at 10 a.m. Wednesdays. Register at https://aflibrary.eventbrite.com.
CEDAR HILLS
Jr. Jazz registration — Children in second to ninth grades can sign up through Nov. 15, or until full, for this recreation league. The season will run from January to early March with all teams playing seven games each. Parents are also encouraged to sign up to coach. Ski or Snowboard Club — The bus is sold out, but some self-drive spots are still available. Children 10 and older are invited to join the Cedar Hills Ski or Snowboard Club at Brighton Ski Resort. Classes are based on skill level and the number of participants. All levels are welcome. Four classes are included from Feb. 10 to March 10. Food Truck Rally — Food trucks will be on hand every Wednesday at Harvey Park through the summer.
Vinyasa Yoga (mixed level) — Join Kristen Rutter at 8:15 a.m. every Wednesday at the Cedar Hills Recreation Center for a dynamic practice that unites body, mind and breath. Bring your own mat, strap and block (a limited number is available to borrow).
HIGH Fitness classes — This weekly class takes aerobics to the next level by combining modern fitness techniques, such as HIIT, plyometics, and intervals of strength and cardio with music. Classes are currently at 7 a.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Cedar Hills Recreation Center. The drop-in rate is $3.50 and punch cards can be purchased at a discount. LINDON
Senior bus — The Lindon Senior Center has a bus and is able to offer rides to and from the center on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. This is available for Lindon resident seniors. Pick-ups are between 10 and 11 a.m. Drop-offs are between 1 and 2 p.m. Reservations must be made at least one day in advance. Contact the Senior Center front desk at (801) 769-8625.
OREM
Join the Orem Chorale — Members of the community are invited to join the Orem Chorale for the 2023-24 season. The group will meet weekly from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursdays n the Orem High School choir room September through May, except for major holidays and school breaks. The chorale is a non-audition community choir whose focus is to sing beautiful, uplifting music while honing musicianship and serve the community. Volunteer at the library — Friends of the Payson Library notes that residents can volunteer for an hour or less each month to help the library meet the needs of children and patrons. Volunteers are asked to offer ideas and support the group’s yearly book sale. PROVO
Discussion on mining magnate Jesse Knight — Newell Boyd Knight will give a presentation on “Uncle Jesse: The Vision to See, the Courage to Do: The Life of Jesse Knight” during the Utah Valley Historical Society’s monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14, in Room 201 of Provo City Library. Born in 1845, Knight experienced poverty and family tragedy and rose to become a mining magnate who gave generously to Brigham Young University and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Great-grandson, Newell Boyd Knight will delve into the life of Jesse Knight, looking inside the man and his contributions to the economy of Provo, Knightville near Eureka and the state.
SARATOGA SPRINGS
Community Orchestra — The Saratoga Springs Community Orchestra holds practices on the first and third Thursdays of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. at the city offices, 1307 N. Commerce Drive. The orchestra will be preparing for Saratoga Splash Days and the December holiday concerts.
UTAH COUNTY
Mental health support groups and classes — NAMI Utah County offers free in-person and online support groups and classes for adults and teens living with mental health conditions and for family members of loved ones living with mental health conditions. Volunteers to help Kids On The Move — Each Friday and Saturday, Kids On The Move offers Respite Care, providing a free break to parents with special needs children. Families drop their children off at locations in Orem, Lehi and Springville where they are paired one-on-one with a volunteer to play for the evening. A nurse or behavior technician is also present to help oversee. The group is seeking 10 volunteers 16 years and older from 5:45 to 9:30 p.m. every Friday and Saturday to help make this happen. Foster grandparents sought — Utah County is seeking senior volunteers to serve as foster grandparents. Volunteers must be limited-income individuals at least 55 years old and able to serve 15 or more hours per week. Volunteers serve as mentors, tutors and caregivers for children and youth at schools, hospitals, youth centers and similar organizations. Volunteers receive a non-taxable stipend, paid personal leave, transportation reimbursement, ongoing training and more. Utah County Home Visit Programs in need of donations — Utah County Health Department home visit programs are running low on donated resources such as baby blankets and diapers. The health department is asking Utah County community members to consider donating items or organizing service projects to assist in providing donations. The items most needed are new receiving blankets or small quilts and diapers. Other welcomed items include: infant “onesies,” knit hats and infant-appropriate board books. Items should be in new condition. Donations may be dropped off Monday to Friday (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) at the following health department locations: Provo — 151 S.
