“City to Summit” photo contest — The nonprofit group Scenic Utah is holding its second annual “City to Summit” photo contest. Entries may be submitted through Oct. 15 in categories including night skies, scenic streetscapes, billboard blunders, rural Utah, scenic byways and backways, and nature in the city. “Nurturing Hope in Ourselves and Others” presentation — The Utah Women & Leadership Project is hosting an online presentation by Chan Hellman, a professor of social work at the University of Oklahoma, from noon to 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Hellman will introduce the science and power of hope and practical strategies for building resilience. AMERICAN FORK

“Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame” — The Timpanogos Community Theater’s production of “Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame” is set for Oct. 4 to 19 at the Valentine Theater. Featuring the music by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, this musical is an unforgettable experience for the whole family. “Musical Mystery” concert — The American Fork Symphony will present Musical Mystery at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, at the American Fork Junior High School Auditorium. “Echoes of the Heartland” concert — Join the Timpanogos Singers and Youth Choirs for a free concert, “Echoes of the Heartland: A Folk Song Celebration” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, at the American Fork Library Rotunda. Immerse yourself in an evening of folk songs from around the world.

Events at the American Fork Library — Here are some upcoming events at the American Fork Library: Oct. 7: Writer’s Club for teenagers at 3 p.m. Teen writers of all genres welcome. Monthly challenges given. Oct. 7: Family Night at the Library at 7 p.m. Join the library for a graveyard smash with games, crafts and, of course, the Monster Mash. Oct. 7: Gardening Class for adults at 7 p.m. Winter and houseplant care — learn how to choose the best plants for your environment and how to keep them healthy. Oct. 9: Learn & Grow Playtime for children at 11:30 a.m. Bring your children to an open playtime with Help Me Grow Utah to learn how about your kids’ development through play. Oct. 9: Art After School for teens at 4:30 p.m. In October, we will make a spooky Halloween art project. All supplies provided and enthusiasts of all skill levels are welcome. CEDAR HILLS

Ski and Snowboard Club — Registration for the Ski and Snowboard Club for children ages 10 and up begins at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1. There will be two sessions — Session 1 consists of four days beginning Feb. 8 and will cost $330 for bus, lessons and a pass. Session 2 consists of three days starting March 15 and will cost $250 for bus, lessons and pass. Karate — Cedar Hills Community Services offers a fun, multi-level karate training experience for all ages 6 and up, including adults. LINDON

Senior bus — The Lindon Senior Center has a bus and is able to offer rides to and from the center on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. This is available for Lindon resident seniors. Pick-ups are between 10 and 11 a.m. Drop-offs are between 1 and 2 p.m. Reservations must be made at least one day in advance. Contact the Senior Center front desk at (801) 769-8625.

PAYSON

Volunteer at the library — Friends of the Payson Library notes that residents can volunteer for an hour or less each month to help the library meet the needs of children and patrons. Volunteers are asked to offer ideas and support the group’s yearly book sale. SARATOGA SPRINGS

Community Orchestra — The Saratoga Springs Community Orchestra holds practices on the first and third Thursdays of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. at the city offices, 1307 N. Commerce Drive. The orchestra will be preparing for Saratoga Splash Days and the December holiday concerts.

UTAH COUNTY

Mental health support groups and classes — NAMI Utah County offers free in-person and online support groups and classes for adults and teens living with mental health conditions and for family members of loved ones living with mental health conditions. Volunteers to help Kids On The Move — Each Friday and Saturday, Kids On The Move offers Respite Care, providing a free break to parents with special needs children. Families drop their children off at locations in Orem, Lehi and Springville where they are paired one-on-one with a volunteer to play for the evening. A nurse or behavior technician is also present to help oversee. The group is seeking 10 volunteers 16 years and older from 5:45 to 9:30 p.m. every Friday and Saturday to help make this happen. Foster grandparents sought — Utah County is seeking senior volunteers to serve as foster grandparents. Volunteers must be limited-income individuals at least 55 years old and able to serve 15 or more hours per week. Volunteers serve as mentors, tutors and caregivers for children and youth at schools, hospitals, youth centers and similar organizations. Volunteers receive a non-taxable stipend, paid personal leave, transportation reimbursement, ongoing training and more. Utah County Home Visit Programs in need of donations — Utah County Health Department home visit programs are running low on donated resources such as baby blankets and diapers. The health department is asking Utah County community members to consider donating items or organizing service projects to assist in providing donations. The items most needed are new receiving blankets or small quilts and diapers. Other welcomed items include: infant “onesies,” knit hats and infant-appropriate board books. Items should be in new condition. Donations may be dropped off Monday to Friday (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) at the following health department locations: Provo — 151 S. University Ave., Suite 1610, American Fork — 599 S. 500 East. Questions about the home visit programs should be directed to Bonnie Hardy at (801) 851-7026.
