Events at the American Fork Library — Here are some upcoming events at the American Fork Library: March 8: Dungeons & Dragons Workshop – Part 2 for teens at noon. A series to learn the basics of story creation and role play game. March 10: Teen Writer’s Club at 3 p.m. Teen writers of all genres welcome. Monthly challenges given. March 10: Family Night – The Great Jigsaw Puzzle Race at 7 p.m. Put your jigsaw puzzling skills to the test for a family-friendly competition. March 12: Art After School for teens at 4:30 p.m. Enthusiasts of all skill levels welcome. March 13: Adult Writer’s Club – Advanced at 7 p.m. Refine your creative writing, receive help editing with peer review and connect with other writers. March 17: Teen Writer’s Club at 3 p.m. Teen writers of all genres welcome. Monthly challenges given. March 17: Harp Irish Dance Company at 7 p.m. There will be a lively, all-ages performance in the Rotunda. March 19: Teen Coding Club at 4:30 p.m. A beginner-level class for teens ages 12 to 18. March 20: Dungeons & Dragons Beginner Workshop for adults at 5 p.m. Adults are invited to learn the basics of playing the game, including the rules, character creation and storytelling. March 22: Bach in the Library at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Carmen Hall will perform a piano concert in the Rotunda.
CEDAR HILLS
Spring Soccer — Registration opens Jan. 15 for spring tot soccer and K-12 soccer. The season runs for seven weeks and players wear a $10 reversible jersey. Parents are encouraged to sign up as volunteer coaches. Nonresidents can participate at no additional cost. Ski and Snowboard Club — Registration is still open for Session 2 of the Ski and Snowboard Club for children ages 10 and up. Session 2 consists of three days starting March 15 and will cost $250 for bus, lessons and pass. Karate — Cedar Hills Community Services offers a fun, multi-level karate training experience for all ages 6 and up, including adults. LINDON
Senior bus — The Lindon Senior Center has a bus and is able to offer rides to and from the center on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. This is available for Lindon resident seniors. Pick-ups are between 10 and 11 a.m. Drop-offs are between 1 and 2 p.m. Reservations must be made at least one day in advance. Contact the Senior Center front desk at (801) 769-8625.
PAYSON
Volunteer at the library — Friends of the Payson Library notes that residents can volunteer for an hour or less each month to help the library meet the needs of children and patrons. Volunteers are asked to offer ideas and support the group’s yearly book sale. PROVO
“Persons Unknown: Lynching in Utah” lecture — Larry Gerlach, a professor emeritus of history at the University of Utah, will present “Persons Unknown: Lynching in Utah,” looking at the state’s history with extralegal executions at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, in Room 201 at the Provo City Library. This Utah Valley Historical Society lecture is free and open to the public.
“Going Over Jordan: Researching the Enslaved Black Utah Pioneers” lecture — Amy Tanner Thiriot, a family history instructor at BYU-Idaho, will present a lecture on “Going Over Jordan: Researching the Enslaved Black Utah Pioneers” at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 13, at the Education in Zion Auditorium at BYU. Events at the Provo City Library — Here are some upcoming events at the Provo City Library: Mondays through Fridays: “Metaphor, Myth, and Politics: Art from Native Printmakers” from 3:30 to 8 p.m. in The Attic. Display features 35 contemporary works on paper by 28 Native and Indigenous artists. March 10: Trivia Night for ages 16 and up at 7 p.m. in The Attic. Test your general knowledge with your own team of 5 to 8 or join a team when you arrive. Register online. March 11: Family Yoga at 6 p.m. in The Attic. All ages and abilities welcome. Register online. March 12: Author Event with Heather B. Moore and Allison Hong Merrill at 7 p.m. in Room 309. Join the authors of “The Paper Daughters of Chinatown Young Reader’s Edition” for a discussion of little-known women in history, prizes and a book signing. Register online. March 15: Writers Workshop: Richard Paul Evens and Author Ready from 2 to 6 p.m. in The Attic. SARATOGA SPRINGS
Community Orchestra — The Saratoga Springs Community Orchestra holds practices on the first and third Thursdays of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. at the city offices, 1307 N. Commerce Drive. The orchestra will be preparing for Saratoga Splash Days and the December holiday concerts.
UTAH COUNTY
Warming center volunteers sought — Volunteers 18 and older sought to help at warming centers in Provo and unincorporated Utah County during the evening, late night and early morning. The centers are for homeless individuals seeking warmth and place to stay for the night. The centers will be open nightly through April 30. Mental health support groups and classes — NAMI Utah County offers free in-person and online support groups and classes for adults and teens living with mental health conditions and for family members of loved ones living with mental health conditions. Volunteers to help Kids On The Move — Each Friday and Saturday, Kids On The Move offers Respite Care, providing a free break to parents with special needs children. Families drop their children off at locations in Orem, Lehi and Springville where they are paired one-on-one with a volunteer to play for the evening. A nurse or behavior technician is also present to help oversee. The group is seeking 10 volunteers 16 years and older from 5:45 to 9:30 p.m. every Friday and Saturday to help make this happen. Foster grandparents sought — Utah County is seeking senior volunteers to serve as foster grandparents. Volunteers must be limited-income individuals at least 55 years old and able to serve 15 or more hours per week. Volunteers serve as mentors, tutors and caregivers for children and youth at schools, hospitals, youth centers and similar organizations. Volunteers receive a non-taxable stipend, paid personal leave, transportation reimbursement, ongoing training and more. Utah County Home Visit Programs in need of donations — Utah County Health Department home visit programs are running low on donated resources such as baby blankets and diapers. The health department is asking Utah County community members to consider donating items or organizing service projects to assist in providing donations. The items most needed are new receiving blankets or small quilts and diapers. Other welcomed items include: infant “onesies,” knit hats and infant-appropriate board books. Items should be in new condition. Donations may be dropped off Monday to Friday (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) at the following health department locations: Provo — 151 S.
